Environmental Science Award for Chris Wood-2008

Chris was awarded the prestigious Miroslaw Romanowski Medal by the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) for his significant contributions to the resolution of environmental problems. In the award citation, the RSC recognized Chris as an outstanding scientist who has made substantial contributions to the proper stewardship of our environment.

   
Research Expedition to Bamfield Marine Station

A contingent of Wood lab. members and collaborators are at Bamfield every summer researching osmoregulation and metal toxicity in marine organisms amidst the spectacular fauna and flora on the breathtakingly beautiful shores of B.C.

            
International Research Chair to battle environmental pollution for Chris Wood and Adalto Bianchini-2009

Dr. Chris Wood of McMaster Universityand Dr. Adalto Bianchini of the Federal University of Rio Grande are recipients of a $1,000,000 to conduct environmental research in Brazil and Canada. The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Canada Research Chairs Program came together to fund research partnerships between outstanding university scholars in Canada and their peers in the developing world. The title of the research program is called "Battling pollution in coastal areas", and was selected among 104 applications through a rigorous peer-review process. From what they learn at the Brazil site over the next 5 years, they will determine what is applicable to the Hamilton Harbour cleanup.

      
Excellence in Mentorship award from Nature 2010

Chris Wood was awarded the "Nature Lifetime Achievement award for mentorship". The winner was chosen from more than 50 nominee applications put forward by colleagues and former students. The judging panel was won over by the passionately sincere testimonials from Wood''s former students, many of whom spoke of his lab as if it were a family.
