Welcome to the Elliot Lab - home of all things Streptomyces! These remarkable bacteria make their home in the dirt, where they have to battle for survival with millions of other microbes. These finely honed microbial masters have an amazing multicellular life cycle, and produce an arsenal of compounds that can be used to communicate with - or kill - other microbes. They are the source of most of our antibiotics. Our work on these fascinating bacteria covers everything from antibiotic production and RNA-based gene regulation, to multicellular development and microbial community interactions.
